In late 2003, the landlord and a group of friends from The Early Bird public house, Weavering, Maidstone decided to accept a challenge

from the Medway Police to play a Charity rugby match in aid of the Kent Air Ambulance.

Despite the majority of the team having no rugby experience whatsoever, the game proved a great success attracting in excess of 200 supporters and, in conjunction with the post match entertainment raised £3,000.00 for the Air Ambulance Trust.

Following this success and with the support and backing of the Kent Rugby Football Union, the commitment shown from both players and our sponsors, we applied to enter the Mid Kent & East Sussex RFU Leagues in 2004. Our application was successful and after a tightly fought season we narrowly missed out on the winners spoils after a defeat at the last game decider against Aylesford, claiming the runners up position in our first year. We then proceeded to claim promotions in another 3 successive seasons, each time finishing second in our respective league.

The next few years saw a period of consolidation, many of our senior players retired, being replaced by many young new faces.  In 2013/14 we won our league, Dragon Fire 4, the clubs first major silverware and in 2014/15 after appointing a new Head Coach in former England International Derek Coates towards the end of the season, we won Late Red 3 at the first attempt, overhauling Sheppey on the last day of the season. The 2015/16 season will see us playing in Premier 2, 1 league below the RFU’s main structure and the current average age of our squad is just 24.

After our first successful season in 2004, Weavering  Warriors RFC became affiliated to both the Kent Rugby Football Union and the

Rugby Football Union. We are also associated with the Kent Society of Rugby Football Union Referees who provide all referees for our

Home League fixtures but we also have our own qualified Coach (a former England International) & Referee.

We operate our own website under the RFU Community pages and our own independent website at www.weaveringwarriors.co.uk.

We currently train every Wednesday at Park Wood Recreation Ground, 7pm-9pm. All home matches are currently played at Park Wood Recreation Ground. All players must be registered with the Rugby Football Union, which is certified through the Secretary at Weavering Warriors RFC. This requires completion of the Weavering Warriors RFC registration form. All players and members are expected to

adhere to a code of conduct and all are requested to sign in agreement of this on joining the club

• Membership & Subscriptions - We currently operate two subscription methods. The current rates for 2016/17 is £15.00 standing order

per month for single membership or a one off £180.00 membership fee. At present our club membership is open to all, subject to the

usual provisos about behaviour, etc. In addition to the current Senior playing membership we have attracted a number of social members,

including a number of families.

• Kit - Weavering Warriors RFC play in Black and Maroon shirts.  Black shorts, and black and maroon socks are obtained through the club.

• Insurance -The Rugby Football Union covers each member club with its compulsory insurance which covers playing members for death

and permanent disability only.  A copy of the current compulsory playing insurance schedule is available from the Club Secretary and is

backed by Marsh.  Additional insurance is available for individuals at a premium, further details can be provided by the club Secretary.

• Youth Policy - Whilst Weavering Warriors RFC currently has no Youth or Ladies structure it is our intention to promote the benefits of

our organisation and provide a stable environment with the use of new facilities to attract younger players and female representatives.

At present we operate just the one side. We currently have 31 players signed for our Senior side for the 2014/15 season, but now with a firm base which we hope to secure a 10 year lease on, sufficient funding and Club House facilities we aim to attract sufficient players to promote a second Senior team and develop our facilities to attract both Junior and female players.

Our future intention is to promote our 1st XV into the Kent Leagues while leaving our 2nd XV in the Kent Rural Leagues. This will not only attract additional media attention but also additional sponsorship possibilities. We intend to develop not only the current players and personnel actively involved in the success of the club to date, but equally important promote Weavering Warriors RFC as an attractive opportunity for established players, sponsors and the development of a youth and ladies section.
